True Purpose

1 John 2:15-17 “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world – the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does – comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.”

Simply put, loving the world is at odds with loving God. To embrace the values of the world and its definition of success, to give in to its cravings, lusts, and boasts, to seek its approval – all of this is contrary to God’s intentions for me. He wants me to discover my purpose in doing his will. Only there will I find true satisfaction.

Father, more than anything I want to know your specific direction for my life in the year ahead, and I want to bear fruit for you. You have reset my priorities many times over the years to make me more into the man you want me to be. I reject the values and temptations of the world system. I embrace your ways and long to join you in your purposes today.
