The Most Lopsided Partnership in the Universe

1 Peter 3:12 “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

Peter’s paraphrase of Psalm 34 is both astonishing – the God of the universe watches and listens attentively to individual human beings – and terrifying – God sets himself against those who do evil. God listens and cares deeply about every facet of my life. He desires to guide me and act on my behalf if I invite him to do so. This represents the most lopsided partnership in the universe – almighty God working in cooperation with fragile, fallible man. God never treats me like a puppet; amazingly, he treats me like a son whom he entrusts with a share of his purposes on this earth.
