Proverbs 3:13-14 “Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.”
The best investment you can make is to grow in God-given wisdom. This truth has been lost to modern society and may have never been widely accepted at any time in history. Why are we so stubbornly foolish to seek meaning and happiness in everything except God’s ways? Despite boundless evidence of epic relational failures and the utter misery of people who have attained worldly “success”, the vast majority of people still yearn to emulate them. What a futile quest! Despite my inadequacy in following what God has taught me through the Bible and from brothers and sisters in the faith, whenever I’ve acted with wisdom, it’s been for my good and the good of others. Dawn and I have celebrated more than three decades of marriage and our joy continues stronger than ever; we have known bare simplicity and overflowing abundance; we have seen our children grow in the faith and love and wisdom of God; we have served together across cultures here and abroad; we have experienced again and again the promises of God’s Word fulfilled, his comfort in sorrow, and his joy in answered prayer.
Father, to you be all honor and praise. It is only because of your grace and the indwelling of your Holy Spirit that any of these blessings have been possible. Thank you, Father, for the priceless gift of your life-giving wisdom.
