Stand Firm

1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

The context of this verse is the resurrection of all believers – Christ’s victory over death bringing eternal life to all who follow him. Knowing our ultimate destiny in Christ, we can stand firm in whatever task God has called us to do here and now. God does not distinguish a portion of our time as purely secular or “off the clock.” Everything we do – including the most mundane activities in our jobs – is to bring him glory (1 Cor. 10:31). Since Christ has conquered the great enemy of death, how should I think and act today? Where do I need to stand firm?

Father, thank you for conquering death. Thank you for hope and purpose and meaning. The Christian faith fits the facts like no other world view. Please use me today as a witness, walking with humility and grace toward everyone I meet and giving myself fully to the work you have called me to do. Thank you that all of my labors can have meaning if done for you.
