John 17:15-16; 18:36 “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of this world … My kingdom is not of this world.”
The fact that I am alive on this earth means that God has a purpose yet to fulfill through me. But the world is a dangerous place and evil is active in it. I must have God’s protection, not only against external dangers but especially to protect my thoughts, attitudes, and desires. Christ’s kingdom is not of this world. And Jesus declares that I, an adopted heir in his kingdom, am also not of this world. My life needs to show that.
Father, just as Jesus prayed for my protection long ago on his way to the cross, so I also pray that you would surround me and my family, protecting us from the evil one. Please help me to glorify you and not puff myself up today. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.
