Never Blind Faith

Hebrews 11:1,6 “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. … Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

Faith pleases God. He rewards those who earnestly seek him. By definition, faith is believing without seeing. But faith is not blind; it stands on truth, facts, and evidence. Ultimately, however, faith requires making a choice. Must a person always require one more piece of evidence before he or she will believe? Or has God revealed enough evidence through nature, science, history, archaeology, human behavior, philosophy, miracles, transformed lives, and Scripture for a person to take the final step of asserting the certainty of God’s existence and his rescuing intent for humankind? To deny all the evidence because something is still missing from the puzzle is an act of hubris. It is like the Pharisees who witnessed Jesus’ miracles and still refused to believe. Every human being who encounters the claims of Christ must ask – when is it enough evidence for me to take the step of faith?

Father, thank you that you engage our minds with truth and our hearts with longing. Please continue to deepen and strengthen my faith. Use me as a light in my family, my workplace, my neighborhood, and far beyond so that faith in Jesus Christ multiplies on this earth.
