How to Leave a Good Inheritance

Psalm 25:12-13 “Who, then, is the man that fears the Lord? He will instruct him in the way chosen for him. He will spend his days in prosperity, and his descendants will inherit the land.”

God guides and prospers those who fear him. This does not mean an absence of adversity, but rather a path through it (note that the psalmist, David, describes his struggles in this same psalm: “I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart have multiplied … anguish … affliction … distress … my enemies have increased.” 25:16-19). Fearing God means taking him seriously, paying attention to his instructions, and obeying him. This results in good things – not only for me, but for my family and the generations to come.

Father, you always have a purpose in suffering, in shaping and molding me to be more like your Son. May my life today reflect your light into this dark world. May I honor you with reverence, awe, obedience, gratitude, and dependence. Thank you for your instruction and the blessings that result from following you.
