How to Find Life, Prosperity, and Honor

Proverbs 21:2 “All a man’s ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart.”

Proverbs 21:21 “He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity, and honor.”

What is lurking in my heart right now about my job? Although there are many reasons to think positively I can sense a kind of discomfort over being lost in the organization, overlooked, under a crushing weight of controlling managers, swimming in an ocean of bureaucracy and ego. And some of that ego is my own, still trying to rise and take charge and be valued and recognized and granted a high-status position. These are ugly things that deny God’s goodness. God put me where I am for a reason and I must trust him. This may be the beginning of a divine signal to change roles or change companies, but I must do nothing without seeking God’s guidance continually. I can’t fall prey to doubt, fear, pride, or the temptation to make it all about me. I must pursue God and live righteously. The only kind of life, prosperity, and honor that truly satisfies is that which comes from God, not from the world.

Father, as you weigh my heart, please show me where I harbor the ugliness of selfish ambition and easily wounded pride. I know it’s in there. Please root it out and transform my thoughts and attitudes so that they are pleasing to you. I thirst for your peace. Fill me with your love and with righteousness. I know from that you will give me life, prosperity, and honor – and you have done this again and again when I’ve obeyed you. I give you this day. Please lead me in the direction you desire.
