How to Deal With Your Boss

Colossians 3:22 “Obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.”

Our first allegiance as Christians is to God himself. But he has put us on earth for purposes that involve other people, including those we work with and work for. The workplace is a key testing ground and environment for developing Christ-like character. I will fail if I succumb to currying favor or doing only the work that makes me look good. I will not honor and respect God, and I will be unproductive as his representative. I will also find that no promotion or raise can ever truly satisfy. But walking with Jesus and honoring him always satisfies and brings joy.

Father, keep me from trying to look good in front of others, from the temptation to be on the “right” leadership teams, from deriving my satisfaction from my rank. May you instead be honored today through my words and actions in a way that respects the leaders above me, cooperates with my colleagues, and shines your light into the darkness.
