Courage In Enemy Territory

1 Peter 5:8-9 “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”

Evil is active and aggressive, always sniffing the air for weakness and fear, always on the prowl to devour human beings. Satan despises the very thought of us. His constant attack on humans, made in God’s image, is an attempt to continue his rebellion against the Creator. But I don’t have to give in to evil in my job, my family, my community, my country. God, who is infinitely more powerful, gives me the strength to resist Satan’s attacks and to stand firm in the faith. And I play a role in my own protection by being self-controlled and alert, and by connecting with fellow Christians throughout the world who are in the same battle.

Father, thank you for your protection against a foe who would otherwise overpower me. Please give me courage to stand my ground, firmly trusting in you. Let your light shine brightly today in all of my Christian brothers and sisters throughout the world.
