Break the Pattern

Romans 12:2 “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing, and perfect will.”

The “pattern” of this world is how the world defines success and meaning and worth. No one has to teach this pattern of the world’s values, it is all-pervasive. To think otherwise, to be transformed (“conformed to the likeness of his Son.” Romans 8:29) requires my mind to be renewed. Studying and meditating on Scripture, putting God’s Word into practice, and praying according to God’s will are vital to that transformation and renewing. One of many blessings is promised here: You will know God’s will for your actions today. This is wisdom. And God’s will is good, pleasing, and perfect.

Father, saturate me in your truth so that I grow in wisdom, knowing and obeying your will. I desire to continue on this path of transformation, rejecting what the world prizes and embracing your ways. Thank you for the peace that comes from walking according to your will, which I have indeed found to be good and pleasing and perfect.
