Am I Staying on Top of Things?

Proverbs 27:23 “Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds.”

God doesn’t want me to run things by the seat of my pants. In business, I have to stay on top of responsibilities, measure operations, conduct regular project reviews, audit the books, revise forecasts, assess people, analyze data. At home, I have to be diligent about reducing debt, saving for education and retirement, making wise investments, keeping the house and car in good working condition. This is all part of honoring God by stewarding what he has given me and thereby caring for my family and my co-workers.

Father, your Word contains lofty poetry and vivid revelation, but also basic, practical instruction like this proverb. Please give me wisdom and attentiveness in serving you and serving the people around me. I want to honor you by doing it all with excellence – for your glory, not my own.
