Why You Shouldn’t Believe in Yourself

Psalm 49:12-13a “Man, despite his riches, does not endure; he is like the beasts that perish. This is the fate of those who trust in themselves.”

The world’s syrupy exhortation to “believe in yourself” is a lie. This pair of verses and so many others in this collection clearly teach me not to have self-confidence but God-confidence. This means depending on God and placing my full trust in his love, provision, guidance, and grace toward me. Knowing this, I am ready to take on whatever challenges are ahead and whatever the world throws at me because God is with me, equipping me, and empowering me to do what is right and good and meaningful.

Father, I trust in you. Whether in times of certainty or ambiguity in my job, I know you have a plan for me. Please shine the light of Christ through my actions and attitudes so that my work reflects your glory.
