James 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
This is about obedience. The Christian who brings his faith into all aspects of his life will not merely hear on Sunday and then ignore or disobey the rest of the week. I deceive myself if I explain away obvious instruction about things like giving generously, loving my enemies, confessing my faith, respecting those in authority, praying, studying Scripture, fleeing temptation, etc. Obedience is more than mental assent, it is action: “Do what it says.”
Father, please strengthen me to obey you today. As I study your Word, help me to know it deeply, and then to obey the wise instruction found there.
