Dark Times

Psalm 112:4-5 “Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice.”

Every Christian will experience dark times. In some parts of the world the daily darkness and oppression can seem overwhelming. But God is there. He never abandons his own. Even in darkness, light dawns for God’s children. He comes to them with good (Psalm 107:9 “He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.”). But these verses also presume obedience to God’s ways and his character: grace, compassion, righteousness, generosity, justice. Continuing and growing in those ways, even through (or especially through) darkness, is one way that God’s light dawns.

Father, please transform and revive this world. Darkness is enveloping whole nations. Please make your presence evident in your people. Please make your presence evident in everything I say and do today.
