A Green Leaf

Proverbs 11:28 “Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.”

Righteousness is God’s priority, not “wealth management.” God wants me to put my trust in him, to depend on him for every need, to obey him, and to be diligent in my work – yet leaving the results and increase to him. Once a man has saved money for retirement and has seen the balance grow and has known how hard-fought the earnings came, it can become a temptation to focus too much on it. But God is the one who deserves my focus and attention. He is my provider from long before my first paycheck until the last breath in my lungs. He promises to be with me in all circumstances and only asks me to walk with him, to love him with heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love others with compassion and action. A green leaf is alive, and remains alive, because it is connected to the branch.

Father, Please help me set my eyes on you today, not on the surging waves and driving winds of the economy. You have always taken care of me and my family, meeting every need, and continually showing us that you are worthy of our trust. Praise you, O Lord.
