An Inevitable, Inescapable Equation

Galatians 6:7-8 “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

This is an inevitable, inescapable equation of how life operates. Anyone who thinks he can beat it is, in a sense, mocking or defying God. In the end, he is deceiving himself. Living to please myself is an unworthy goal that leads to self-destruction, not life. How many times does this experiment have to play out and prove that ignoring God’s ways and pursuing my own ways leads to misery and enslavement?

Father, please keep me from the lie that I can devote myself to my self and everything will become joy and satisfaction. Your Word makes it clear that things never turn out that way. Please make this day one in which I honor you instead of attempting to honor myself. Please fill my hours with gratitude, obedience, and dependence upon you. Your ways indeed lead to life.
