A Restful Night’s Sleep

Psalm 3:5-6 “I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side.”

King David wrote this when he was being pursued by a rebel army. Though I don’t face mortal enemies like that, this pair of verses reminds me to trust God in all circumstances and in the face of any obstacle. This includes challenges at work that seem insurmountable. The reference to sleep is important because worrying about and over-thinking problems robs me of precious, rejuvenating rest. The Lord sustains me. He knows my circumstances and is with me every moment.

Father, thank you for sustaining me and my family. Thank you for assuring me that you will make a straight path through the challenges I’m facing right now as I trust in you and acknowledge you (Proverbs 3:5-6).
