Slander

Proverbs 30:10 “Do not slander a servant to his master, or he will curse you, and you will pay for it.”

Be careful about your words. Slander is making false and damaging statements about another person. It can be tempting to guess at a person’s motives and make assumptions about their character based on my observations, but I must resist denigrating that person before others. Harmful words and false assumptions are usually sticky, having long-term negative effects in a person’s life. I don’t want to be the cause of such pain or to receive the curses and payback from a person I’ve wounded in this way. Most of all I don’t want to participate in anything false.

Father, please guard my tongue today so that I speak no slander. Instead, may my words speak life into the people around me.
