What Good Is It?

James 2:14-17 “What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? … Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

For a follower of Jesus, faith and action are inseparable. If my faith in Jesus is alive and active, then I will be obedient to his example of caring for the needy, feeding the hungry, healing the sick, visiting the lonely (see Matthew 25:31-46). It is also about standing for truth and righteousness even when – especially when – it costs me time, money, reputation, safety, and convenience.

Father, you have given me resources and gifts to be used for the benefit of others and for the spread of your Good News for all people. Please show me where, to whom, and how I am to put my faith into action today. Help me say no to distractions so I can say yes to what you are calling me to do, uniquely and in your strength and power. Please make me fruitful today for your glory.
